This month, Google has begun testing an app download shortcut from search results, without the need to access the Google Play store. The company is reportedly testing the approach on a small number of people.
Previously, Google has displayed links to Android and iOS app stores in search results, but the latest move enables developers, brands and eCommerce sites to drive traffic through the web and track its results.

A Google spokesperson confirmed:
“We’re always experimenting with ways to provide the best search results and making finding the content you need as easy as possible.”
The move comes as an ever growing number of mobile device owners are spending time in-app as opposed to the mobile web, potentially resulting in lost revenue for Google. The company continues to improve its search engine to become more valuable to mobile users.
Allowing users to download apps directly from browser search results acts like a shortcut and ensures they spend more time within search as opposed to an app store.
For now, only a handful of people are testing the feature, but if all goes well, we’re expecting a roll-out soon.
