Instagram is making it easier for users to pay for goods using the app by adding its very own payment feature. Users can now register a debit or credit card on their profile tab. The cards are secured via security pin code.
When they spot an item they like to buy they will no longer have to be reverted to a different website to finish a transaction. Instead, they can finish the purchase right from within Instagram.
Direct checkout on the app could become a success and ultimately lead to higher conversion rates for brands and more ad income for parent Facebook. Indeed, social media users may be more inclined to make an impulse buy if checkout is already integrated within a single app.
The addition was first reported by TechCrunch after a reader noted the tool.
Among the first apps to trial the payment integration was dining reservations app Resy. Snapchat also has plans to add purchase options for movie tickets and other services shortly.
Facebook has previously launched a payments feature on its Messenger chat app. However, the feature lets users make payments to each other rather than offering instant checkouts.
