Last week, Instagram, was reported to be testing 3D touch ads utilising the iPhone’s 3D touch functionality. The news were first reported by Digiday, and have since been rejected by Instagram, saying that it was not currently testing interactive iPhone ads.
Instagram denies testing 3D touch ads
The iPhone’s 3D Touch function allows users to navigate more easily between shopping deals. In addition, Apple Pay can speed up the purchasing process through social apps such as Instagram. Allowing brands to advertise their products for immediate purchase on Instagram presents a huge advantage for the company.
Digiday originally said the move was part of the company’s efforts to expand into eCommerce, allowing users to interact with and eventually purchase products more easily.
In a statement, Instagram confirmed:
“Mobile commerce is definitely a space we are looking at closely. However, this isn’t something we are testing at this time.”
Industry analysts believe that Instagram could be a key driver in mCommerce and social commerce. The platform recently added “Shop Now” and “Install Now” buttons.
