Mobile advertising drives Facebook ad revenue in Q4 2015
2015 has been a good year for Facebook. On Wednesday, the company reported ad revenue of $5.8bn for the fourth quarter 2015, an increase of 57% from 2014. Subsequently, stocks shot up 15% on Thursday.
Much of that ad revenue can be attributed to the company’s mobile efforts. Mobile advertising now makes up 80% of its ad revenue, or $4.5bn. And its mobile user base keeps on growing. According to Statista, Facebook monthly active mobile app users reached 1.4bn in Q4 2015, up 21% from 1.2bn the year over.
Facebook continues to grow its mobile user base
During its earning call, the company reported that mobile daily active users had increased 25% from 2014 in December 2015 to 934m. Combined with 400m Instagram users, the company now reaches 1.3bn monthly active users on mobile devices.
Sheryl Sandberg, COO, Facebook, commented:
“Marketers now realize that if they want to reach their customers where they are, mobile is essential. Our conversations with clients have shifted from if they should market on mobile to how.”
Google and Facebook are dominating much of the mobile ad landscape in the US. The latest earnings results prove that its working.
