Spotify is currently testing an app that could become a major rival to Pandora – the music radio app.
Called ‘Stations by Spotify’, the standalone app lets users tune into a collection of curated music stations at zero charge. The app can be personalized so that users are only listening to the content they enjoy the most.
Once launched, the app starts to play music immediately. Listeners can then navigate to their preferred or personalized playlist through swipe and tap motions.
One of the main differences to Spotify’s original app is that users won’t be able to create their own playlists, but instead, they can customize curated content.
According to Spotify, the app meets the demands by users to more easily explore and discover new music.
“With ‘Stations’, you can listen immediately, and switching stations is simple and seamless – no searching or typing needed. As you listen, it learns what you like and creates personalised stations that you’ll love.”
As of right now, the app is still being tested although Google Play users in Australia have already gained access.
