The future of retail is mobile – shopping app installs jump during Q1 2017

Apps are the future of retail. That’s according to new research from mobile marketing platform YouAppi which measured huge growth in download numbers of retail apps across key markets including the US, India, Indonesia, Brazil, UK, Italy, Germany, Spain, France, China, Russia and Japan.

Based on the campaigns for 1,300 international retail apps across 183 countries, the study found that retail app downloads in Q1 2017 topped those in Q4 2016, despite Q4 traditionally being a stronger quarter for retail. The first few months of the year are usually seen as weaker periods following the shopping spend during the Holiday season.

Mobile is a true shopping aid with 45% of shopping trips now including mobile devices. So what’s driving this growth? Mobile adoption and 24/7 presence alone have contributed heavily to a decrease in retail foot traffic. Younger audiences also appear keen on shopping via their mobile devices. In addition, shoppers want to be able to compare prices in-store and at home using their smartphones.

Meanwhile, savvy retailers have also begun to target prospective consumers. Indeed, video mobile advertising appears to be working best for many retailers.

In addition, YouAppi announced that it was now working with Tophatter, the live auction site which runs 90-second auctions where users can win deals, saving as much as 80%. Using Video and Utility apps, YouAppi will be boosting Tophatter’s user acquisition.

Moshe Vaknin, CEO & Co-founder, YouAppi, explains:

“As data from Tophatter and the tens of other retail apps working with YouAppi show, commerce is going mobile to enable shoppers to buy what they want, when they want and for the price they want while enabling retailers to more cost-effectively acquire shoppers using performance-based metrics.”
