Lead Gen Affiliate Marketing via Mobile. Viable business?

I just recently heard that 75 million iPhones are in use and growing. Besides that, there is an ever-increasing Android user base as well as other smartphones.

The reality is that more and more people are using mobile devices to search for information.

Does this make Mobile Affiliate marketing a viable business? While I know the transactional model (e.g. purchases via a phone) is somewhat fragmented, it seems like Lead Generation, e.g. earning a commission if a user fills out a form, seems like it should be pretty viable.

    What do you think?

Hi JZ - I am really interested in Lead Gen on mobile - agree there is massive potential there. Definitely the auto advertisers have been using mobile for lead gen for a while - with PPC ads on admob and the like leading to test drive forms.

Finance is still very under-developed on mobile - mortgages, loans etc. A big area is obviously click to call ... which is now supported by a a lot of the mobile ad networks and handsets. You can push a user straight to a call centre to complete a lead. Apparently some of the big insurance and bank companies are already doing this in the UK.

Liquid wireless are leading the way here - you can find them in the mobyaffiliates directory. They have one or two mobile lead gen campaigns live at the moment.

What sectors of the lead gen market do you think could work best on mobile?

    Thanks for the reply.

I have signed up for Liquid Wireless. Impressive site but I didn't see any Lead Gen i.e. offers where you can just make money for signing people up.

As far as sectors, it would be the usual, loans, mortgages, insurance. But I also think research marketing companies who want to learn more about mobile usage.

It just seems very undeveloped right now.

Perhaps the bigger networks (e.g. CJ) have more to offer.

    Thoughts?

The bigger networks are really under-developed on this right now - they have one or two mobile web / app offers but really aren't set up to handle the channel. No doubt they are looking into it but at the moment you wont find anything much from them.

Liquid wireless offers become revealed once you have registered and they put you onto the system. There is a loan / debt offer on there live at the moment.

Research is interesting - again liquid wireless have an offer like this, also mobpartner are running the same one - the user has to install an application which is used for research.

Agree it is under-developed - big opportunity for someone ... might be offerpal who do it as they have bought a mobile ad company that does this kind of thing.

yep - turned on a bit of traffic on it just now as a test - its $.45 per sign up - am using organic mobile web traffic but i should think it could pay using arbitrage on mobile ad network traffic too if you managed the campaign right

I was on the LiquidWireless site and didn't see the Lead Gen campaigns. Perhaps I'm not getting access to those campaigns right now? I'm supposed to talk to an affiliate manager there tomorrow. I'll let you know.

    Thanks for all the guidance.

Hi Guys - I realise this thread is a little out of date, but it's very relevant to a product my company just launched so I felt you may still find this of interest.

It's an incentivised co-reg lead generation site on the mobile called Daily SuperDraw, and you can visit it at http://www.dailysuperdraw.com (on your mobile - on web it will have some info). It was launched yesterday (02/12/2010)

Users can get a ticket for a £1m draw by co-opting into consumer lead generation brands.

Would be great to hear any feedback from you guys as you've obviously been looking at the same idea.

    Hey Guys,

I've been doing this for a while now and it's definitely viable. You kind of have to change your mindset from your traditional online affiliate marketing and really think about your users experience but you can make it work.
